From Naval History and Heritage Command, Communication and Outreach Division
The Naval History and Heritage Command, in partnership with the USS San Francisco Memorial Foundation and San Francisco Fleet Week Association, will commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
Taking place at Golden Gate National Recreation Area’s USS San Francisco Memorial, the ceremony will honor the Sailors and Marines aboard USS San Francisco (CA 38) who were killed in action during the battle, November 12-13. This event will also honor all who fought bravely and recognize the sacrifices made during this pivotal campaign in the Pacific theater of World War II.
Participants will include guest speakers from the Navy and Marine Corps, and the office of the Consul General of Japan. Sailors from USS Constitution will provide a color guard.
