International and regional defence journals, subject matter experts and defence contracts’ information all point to one thing - underwater defence and submarine warfare is the next big thing for maritime defence. While airborne and surface maritime surveillance is the current priority, recent contracts awarded by countries like India, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam point to the inevitable fact that APAC nations want to acquire underwater capability

Coupled with a US DoD report fact that the region is second only to the Middle East when it comes to global defence procurement, it is an exciting period for both military and industry stakeholders in the region to be an active part of the ongoing military transformation in APAC.

Our panel of distinguished senior speakers includes:

Vice Admiral Soeparno, Vice Chief of Naval Staff, INDONESIA NAVY

Vice Admiral Ota Fumio, Former Director of Defence Intelligence HQ, MINISTRY OF DEFENCE, JAPAN

Rear Admiral Marsetio, Commander of the Western Fleet Command, INDONESIA NAVY

Taking place in the first week of December and following on from sell-out events in Rome in 2007, Seville in 2008 and Frankfurt in 2009, Military Airlift 2010 will once again bring together an impressive line-up of senior military officers, key policy makers, leading aircraft manufacture and airlift charter companies.

This year the conference will feature a special focus on airlift operations ranging from recent humanitarian engagements in Haiti to tactical airlift manoeuvre in Afghanistan. Attend the conference and hear the latest from EU and NATO airlift agencies on their efforts to achieve greater levels of collaboration and cooperation.
Incorporating a tanker theme, the conference will also feature case studies from MRTT and tanker pilots currently active in Afghanistan, as well as an impartial update on the USAF KC-X programme.
Discuss these issues and more with the people you want to meet from the airlift community.

Keynote addresses:

Major General Margaret Woodward, Commander, 17th Air Force and U.S. Air Forces Africa, Ramstein Air Base, United States Air Force

Air Chief Brigadier General Wolfgang Katter, Chief of Staff, Austrian Air Force

In November 2007 Papa was selected to host 3 NATO C-17 Globemaster III transport aircraft, now under the operational command of the newly established Heavy Airlift Wing (HAW). Papa Air Base is located close to the Northern edge of the Bakony Hills in Veszprem County, Hungary. Launched in 2009, the HAW is an integral part of the Strategic Airlift Consortium (SAC), created in September 2006 to serve the strategic airlift requirements of members, in addition to fulfilling a support role for a variety of NATO, EU and UN missions. The Site Visit is free to all delegates. Coach transport will be available; numbers are limited.

Military Engineering Conference will be held 18-19 October 2010 at the Hilton Kensington Hotel, London.

The ongoing nature of operations among ISAF nations in Afghanistan shows that close combat and sustainment necessarily remain at the heart of NATO armed forces’ engineering corps. Nonetheless, recent natural disasters have highlighted the need for a broader range of engineering skills and emphasised the importance of an effective humanitarian engineering response. As such the conference will explore the recent engineering operations in Haiti with case studies and on the ground perspectives from those engaged in the initial response and the subsequent reconstruction effort.

Maximise your knowledge and engage with serving military officers and leading commercial contractors to discuss integrated engineering solutions and future developments across the industry.

Attend this internationally-focused event and network with distinguished representatives from across the NATO alliance. Take part in wide-ranging discussion with stimulating debate and interactive forums.

Defence Geospatial Intelligence (DGI) is Europe ’s largest annual gathering dedicated to high-level discussion addressing the major challenges of the defence and government geospatial intelligence community. DGI brings together heads of Geospatial Intelligence, Remote Sensing, GIS Mapping, Satellite Imagery and Analysis within the Military, Governmental and National Security sectors. DGI provides a unique forum to discuss and debate the development of geospatial intelligence capabilities across the globe.

Addressing the use of geospatial information in scenarios such as international conflicts, humanitarian disasters, crime, national security, border control, arms treaty monitoring and global climate change, a fundamental objective of DGI is to help organisations understand how to build the necessary infrastructure and architecture to take advantage of geospatial intelligence capabilities.

As GIS technologies and use expand into all areas of the defence operations, so will DGI 2011. This year we are planning to include the following conference tracks in the agenda, focusing on:

Strategies for developing and implementing GIS use in your organisation

Case studies of GIS use in-theatre and in operations (defence and national security focus)

GIS use in command and control – Strategies for C2 and C4, case studies of effective GIS integration.

Effective integration of GIS tools and solutions into your existing IT infrastructure
